The careful use of commas

While changing sheets today I noticed slight stains on Katie’s pillowcase.

I commented, “I think you drool, Katie.”

She said, “I not 'Drool Katie'.

I replied, “No. I said, ‘I think you drool – comma – Katie.’ ”

She said, “I not “Comma Katie.”

Never mind.

Has It Come To This?

This was the second question I asked my self.

The first?

Does soap-covered Slip N Slide constitute a bath?

Drive Thru

Today Abigail and I were playing with a toy McDonald's cash register. I would give her money and order something from a menu.

One time I placed my order, "I'd like two Happy Meals, please."

She asked, "And two Sad Meals???"

Incredible Willpower

Last week Katie and I went to the dentist for the first time. Yes, I know that four years old is pretty late for the first time but Mommy is kind of a procrastinator. (Bless her heart.)

Anyway, at the dentist they told me that I had to stop sucking my thumb. I was devastated. "Puppy" and my thumb have been my constant companion since I was 6 months old.

Well, I am happy to report that I have stopped sucking my thumb!! The first few days were the toughest but I managed to not suck my thumb ever again after the dentist told me to stop. Yesterday for my prize Mommy took me to Walmart to pick out a toy. I picked a Polly Pocket-size Disney princess. (Princesses are my favorite.) Mommy didn't want to leave Katie out so she got a pack of glow-in-the-dark stars for our room. They are a lot of fun when we go to bed but they disappear in the middle of the night. They must be broke already.

Focus Katie, Focus

Katie, bless her heart, has too much to say but not enough attention span to finish any sentence.

This was our actual conversation this morning when we were getting ready to leave.

M: Katie, go get your shoes on.

K: Can I wear these Crotch (Crocs)? (Holding up two different shoes.) Found the match. (Not really.) Walk a walk a walk. (Laying down on the bed.) Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday to . . where’s daddy?

Ah, so many thoughts so little. . . hey, look at that bird.

Good question

Abigail's question for the week: "Why is the Bible about Jesus?"

How would you answer this for a 4 year old?

Special Daddy Time

I woke up a little early on Sunday and went downstairs. Daddy was outside watering the new grass. I wanted to go outside with him but was afraid of the flies. Daddy put down the screen around our patio gazebo, got me some chocolate milk, found a kids magazine (Sunday funnies) in the newspaper, and we just hung out together.

Inside the gazebo I felt like we were in a secret castle. And daddy made me feel like a special princess. It was so sweet. . . perhaps I'll make a habit of waking up early every Sunday! I'm sure that would really bless Daddy. :)

Expanding Vocabulary

Anyone who has spent time with Katie knows that her vocabulary is more extensive than most kids at her age. She talks constantly and picks up new words daily.

Her new word? Bofum. Oh, I'm sure you've heard it before in the local Piggly Wiggly, perhaps from someone buying Moon Pies and RC Cola.

Bofum, adj. used to refer to two people or things : the kids couldn't decide which toy to take so they decided to take bofum.

My Big Girl

No clever caption, just a picture of my big girl. Can you believe how big she's getting?
This was the first day I put her hair in braids (very Laura Ingalls) and she l-o-v-e-d them.
It made her look so much older though and I stopped putting them in for awhile.
She's at Tae Kwon Do camp this week and seems to have grown up over night.
Very proud of our girl but also sad she has to grow up.
